The cute bird gets the worm
Oct 21, 2012

Worms are a nutricious food source for birds.  The protein content is high.  This one photographed in low light.

One key to shooting at ISO 1600 is to make sure not to under-expose.  If I have the shutter speed to spare, I may expose a bit to the right.  A clean and light background is preferred so you do not have to deal with contrasty areas that can add noise.  I had to shoot open at f4 to get a decent shutter speed at 1/512.  While at f4 the whole bird will not be in focus, better the important part of the subject be in focus than shooting at f8 and the whole bird is out of focus when shutter speeds are really low.  At slower shutter speeds, shoot continously and hope to get a sharp frame in the series.

The bird literally gets the worm.  Canon 40D and 70-200 2.8 + 1.4x. Thanks for looking.
