A Question for those "who know things"
Oct 21, 2012

I've read a mess of stuff on "cropping" and "cropping factors" and as near as I can tell it has to do with the geometry of the sensor/lens.   Here is my question: when someone says "I cropped the picture to 100%" do they mean that they cropped the original file from the camera so that 50% of the displayed area is remaining?...or that they cropped to 50% of any linear dimension?....or some other esoteric and non-scientifically based phrase such as "100% according to Silkypix...(PS, Lightroom, etc)"?  If you crop to "100%", aren't you cutting away either everything or nothing?
