Thanks Robert, I appreciate your comments. I did the testing to convince myself the extra money for the VR could be justified. After the testing I don't think it make sense for me. Since the results on the D7000 where actually much better than expected, and I would not use the 20TC on the FX body that often. I have a 300 f2.8 that handles all three TCs very well, so when I need the reach on FX, I would be going with the 300 f2.8 anyway. When I want to smaller package it will be with the D7000, and 99% of the time if I wanted to shoot the 70-200 f2.8 VRI on FX it will be without the TC's where it performs well as you stated. So there isn't a good enough reason for me to spend an extra $900, on the newer version.
