I rechecked the AF fine tune on my D700; normally I don't need to go beyond +3 to +5 with my telephotos and TC's on this body. However, it seemed like the 20TC causes the focus point to be moved farther forward by +6 compared to my other TC's. So on the D7000 it moved from -3 to +3 and it seems to track, with +3 to +9 on the D700. The second photo was taken with the focal length set to 180mm / 360mm on the D700. So my results where much better than the day before, and I revise my original statement that this combination can work well for both DX and FX shooters if you're willing to shoot at f8, although f5.6 is useable if you nail the AF fine tune.

D700 1/500 sec, at f8, VR off
