Canon any better than Nikon for parts?

According to Tom Hogan's recent articals on Nikon service and parts availibility if my Nikon camera or lens needs even a little $10 bolt / part replacementt that anyone could replace themselves. I would have to mail (and pay expensive insurance) the item to Nikon service and be without the item for a couple of weeks. Also once Nikon gets your camera or lens they won't do anything to it unless all repairs they think it needs are done. Is Canon any better? I don't really want to give any more of my business to a company like  that.

My D90 has a small crack in the lower flash housing that would require a complete new body housing to fix. I would have to assume that my camera can no longer be sent to Nikon for anything unless I want to pay for a new body housing as well.
