I have used both Fotomagico 4 and Final Cut Pro X to create slideshows and they are both pretty good. Final Cut is a pro video editor so you can get greater fine grain control of your slide  show but it is more complex, Fotomagico has bundles of special slideshow related features and is much quicker to learn. I have also used iPhoto to create slideshows and some of it's transitions effects are very slick, I particularly the one that mimics the throwing of photos on a pile of previous photos. Using iPhoto is also pretty quick with a simple learning curve. I would suggest starting with iPhoto as it is bundled free with Macs, then if that is not what you want try Fotomagico 4 next.
