Honestly, all this was to be expected. PDAF is very immature - other implementations of it by competent companies (Nikon, Canon) have proven underwhelming, so there are chances Sony's first jab at it will also be. Yet you took the risk of getting the 5R, despite a 16MP sensor which is obviously the same as the one in the 5N, and without trying it out in a shop to see how useful the new controls really were...

So I appreciate your feedback... and the fact that because of good consumers like you, Sony will not be discontinuing the NEX line anytime soon.  But if you really wanted to subsidise Sony this badly, you could have bought some of their shares on the stock exchange instead
