Glad you worked it out. A combination of factors is most often the truth. Harder to nail down but worth the effort.

Also half way through my hikes I change to AI, because I am sweaty and tired, and my vision isn't good enough to see the EVF well and I can not hold the camera as steady zoomed all the way in. But for the start of the hike I try to use the advanced settings to get the most out of it. And it does reward me for doing so.

Indeed the FZ series have some serious engineering and for what they do far surpass the $200 point and shoots at retail stores. In my metropolitan area there are none stocked. Even at full $600 I think the profit margin is slim. For me $600 or even $500 is a serious investment.
