G5 with old oly OM-1 lenses?
Oct 20, 2012

I''m considering to purchase a G5, coming from Canon G series. I want a larger sensor for better IQ and shorter DOF. My first camera was an oly OM-1 (which I still have). It would be nice if I could reuse my old OM lenses (with adapter). For instance my 50mm f/1.8 would do nicely as a fast short tele (100mm eq.). Is there a catch (besides the loss of AF)? Is there a correction factor for the aperture, in other words is f/1.8 still 1.8 on an m43 body?

PS: Why a G5 and not the Oly OM-D?. Because I don't like its retro design... the 'true retro' OM-1 shape is purely functional e.g. the pentaprism: on the OM-D it's just imitation. The in-body IS of the OM-D would be an advantage. On the other hand I heard that the IS (sensor shifter) of the OM-D makes a constant buzzing sound.

Still in doubt, so thanks for giving me your opinion!
