...I have both the 35mm and the 50mm....if I could have just one it would be the 50mm...I have used mu 35mm on 2-D5100 and 1- D5000 and at below f1.8 focus is hit and miss unless you use live view (lens has been calibrated by Nikon twice.
The 50mm is a little longer but shooting wide open no problem....always tack....
