they are both great small lenses IMO

the 50mm 1.8 is so inexpensive the question is "why not"

But I really really like the 35mm 2.0 - makes for a great small package on my new D600; 35mm being a great "one lens" FL -  I have the metal HN-3 hood for it.

About sharpness - the 35 has a central area that is always quite sharp, and then gets bitingly sharp by 5.6, but mostly I just like the way the images it produces look, has some of the same "just rightness" that my old 105 2.5 AI has except in a different focal length - I don't know why it reviews so poorly, except most reviewers never actually shoot with the tested lens significantly , so they report all the measurable flaws, but don't bother to, or can't quantify the total package ... that's a misleading shame
