I think in the future all super-teles should have a built-in TC (1.4x)

The other day a flock of kinglets (Ruby-crowned) went through my area. Initially I went out with a 1.4x TC on my 300II. But the light soon got dark and I also realized I could get very close to the birds and didn't need the TC. So I quickly went back to my car to remove the TC (I didn't have the pouch for the TC with me so I could not remove it there). After that I snapped away, the following is one of the pictures (this particular one was taken at f/3.5).

Anyway, what I am trying to say is, I think a built-in TC is a great idea. For me personally, I don't mind paying $500 (more than a TC itself) for it. For this particular lens, I can "toggle" between a 300mm f/2.8 for the large aperture and fast focusing, to 420mm f/4 for more reach. Mounting/un-mounting a TC can be a hassle in the field, and in my case, wasn't even practical (I would have to put the TC in my pocket, risking scratching it; fortunately I wasn't too far from my car). A built-in TC also has the advantage of better sealing, and probably a little lighter than a "reusable" TC. Of course, the disadvantage is the added cost and weight (if you do not need the TC at all), but like I said, for me personally, I wouldn't mind these!
