A good camera for a beginner

Hi

I am new to this but have read a lot on it, I am looking for a DLSR or SLT in the range of 1200$ body and 800$ lense

I want it to replace the functions of a camcoder too, so the video quality is important

I am new and never owned an SLR camera so if its beginner friendly then that would be nice

right now the a77 seems to be very appealing but I have not checked the canon and nikon cameras yet

Any advice is greatly appreciated
