D300 settings are not imported in NEF file when opened in CS

When Nikon Capture first appeared on the market, it came with a PS plug-in such that an edited NEF would open in ACR with the edits intact.  With the advent of NX (I think; its been a while), the NEF plugin was no more.  If I want to further edit a NEF file in PS, and not lose info via export to jpeg, I either save the file as a tiff or use the menu item "Open With" which I have configured to transfer the edited file into PS, bypassing ACR.  Once in PS, you can either retain the tiff format, or switch to psd ..
