The attached image is shot at f/11 but the same problem exists at f/22 too. I do not know of other lenses but for the 24-120, aperture has nothing to do with the dark corners.

No. In order to shed some girth, the "thin" Vari-ND does not have a front thread.
And, by the way, it is not the filter's problem but the lenses problem and, in this case, likely a user error.
User error - you mean photographer's error? Unless you think the dark corners are my circular paws on the filter, I do not see a "user error" here.
