newbie help request - indoor shooting w/ nikkor 55-200 VR
Oct 18, 2012

Hi there,

I'm a newbie DSLR photographer and I'm hoping to get some advice.  I'm attending an awards ceremony tonight in which my grandmother will be presented with an award.  I'd like to get some good shots of the event.  I'm planing on bringing my d3100 with the 18-55 and the 55-200 VR lens.

Though I haven't been to the venue myself, I'm assuming the 55-200 VR will be my best bet.  being indoors, I'm a bit concerned with lighting.  I'm hoping to get some tips and advice for how to get the best images.  assuming moderate lighting (hopefully!) and no tripod, what shutter speed/aperture should I go for?  How about ISO?  I'm thinking I'll try to shoot in Shutter priority mode, since I'm definitely still learning the ropes when it comes to manual camera principles.

Any tips and/or advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!
