I have an iMac Mid 2012 with i7 and I have a 2009 Mac Pro. There is no comparison! The iMac is faster at everything! If I were you, I would wait at least until next week to see what Apple does. My suggestion is get a new iMac when they come out, put an SSD inside the machine, and get at least 8 gig of ram. You can always get external storage in USB3 or Thunderbolt. Getting an SSD inside the machine will mean, you should not have to worry about a hard drive breakdown that you can not fix! I hope Apple updates the iMac next week. I need a new one too. I hope this helps.
