Riddle Me This - X-trans files - RAW/jpeg and Auto Dynamic Range?

Was doing some testing yesterday and realized I have no clear idea how Auto Dynamic Range works.
1. Does it have an effect on RAW files or only OOC jpegs?
2. I assume it brings back or improves the shadow and hi-lite tones but am vague on how it does so. Anyone know the answer to this?
