SX50 Focus issues

I played with SX50 (brand new) in the store and initially, the AF was very good. But, as time passed by, I zoomed in completely to 50x and then zoomed out to 30x and randomly zoom in and out. While I did this, I saw that the camera was not auto focusing even though I set Continuous Focus to ON. I also turned on some of the other focus specific settings (Servo -ON, etc) and still didn't focus properly. Then I turned off continuous AF, it didn't help either. I also pressed the shutter release button half way thru to focus and then it was able to jump into focus. It was not smooth.

Can somebody please try this with theirs or try it in the store?
