Can't get family photos to shoot at good quality when zoomed in!

Hi there,

This is 100% zoom on a family pic I took with about 10+ people scattered on rocks around 6 pm in the little cottonwood canyons (salt lake, ut). Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong? It seems at 24 megapixel, I should be getting sharper images than this but this is the case for all my large family shots. I'm very new to this so maybe it's a setting on my camera I need to be changing. I've been shooting in all manual mode rather than auto just to learn more which settings affect the other.

I am using a Sony a77 with the kit lens and here's the metadata for this shot

• Exposure: 1/125 second at f/3.2
• Focal length: 24mm
• ISO speed: ISO 400
• Flash: did not fire
• Lens: DT 16-50 mm F2.8SSM

100% cropped view of a family pic I took in Little Cottonwood Canyon in Salt Lake, UT at 6 pm in September
