Do you ever change the image size and quality settings?

I have a T4I that I am still learning, but I am a little baffled why they made this so easy to change (it's right there on the quick control menu).

On P/S cameras this makes a bit of sense, IQ is not as high a priority.  Maybe the user is concerned about space or the ease of being able to email an image without having to resize it.

But on an DSLR? Maybe they would have the option buried in the menus or something, but not on the same screen as aperture, exposure, flash setting, ISO, white balance...?

Is it common for you to have your resolution size or quality setting on anything but the highest?  If so, why?
