Help please with new 15-85mm

I was losing one out of every two pictures ith my copy of the lens due to softness. Then someone in here told me to press the shutter to first stop and hold it for a second before pressing more to take the picture. Apparently the IS needs that moment to settle down. So I press and hold, one second or two, then fire, Since then no problems with softness anymore.
