Does your camera & lens focus properly in other environments or with different subjects eg. buildings, cars, indoors and so on which do have more contrast in them compared to foliage.

Here is a simple "to-do" list for testing:

1) Shoot a static subject that has more contrast in it.
2) Use a tripod to eliminate camera shake
3) Turn the IS off while using tripod and
4) Take a shot using your cameras timer function

If you want to go deeper with the issue and if you have a serious doubt regarding back/front focus issues, do a focus test:

Grab this focus chart and print the page no. 18:
http://focustestchart.com/focus21.pdf

Follow the guide given in the .pdf and start testing.

If your camera/lenses does missfocus (back/front) you can send your camera with the lens to canon calibration service. Calibration for your camera/lens cost's roughly 20 bucks or more, but before sending your camera and lens/lenses you should ask from authorized canon dealer/service about the fee. In the other hand: if you have a valid warranty (either with your camera or the lens), the calibration service is free of charge.
