Should I see a difference going from VGA to DVI?

I've been using the onboard graphics in my computer but just got a new graphics card for my birthday, a PNY GeForce 210 1GB DDR3. At first I just used the same VGA cable and moved it over to the new card but then I remembered my monitor (ViewSonic 2365, 1920x1080 res) came with a DVI cable so I dug it out and hooked it up. I've always read that DVI was supposed to be so much better than VGA and wanted to try it but I don't see any difference between the VGA and DVI.

My computer is an emachines (yeah, I know but speed isn't an issue) ET1831-05, 2.2GHz, 3GB RAM, Win7 Home Premium.

With the new card I see a speed difference in about everything I do, but I don't see any visual difference between the new card with DVI and the onboard graphics with VGA.
