Mfg's should make ND filters obsolete

My Canon 5D MkII has base ISO of 100 yet has an ISO 50 setting...to do this they must undersample the sensor during the exposure to simulate an ISO 50 sensitivity or do some other similar downward adjustment to sensitivity.

Why not take that same logic and provide much lower ISO settings? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to take a 30 second exposure in daylight without needing to dig out the ND glass? Filters on a wide angle lens are always an issue. I leave my 17-40 naked for that reason. I have replicated long exposures by taking numerous exposures of the same scene and blending them in Photoshop...but that's alot more work.

But, I think the traditional camera manufacturers can't think enough out of the box to do something like this...Sony may be the most likely to try it.
