But as Malch points out, it all depends on Nikon rationally identifying and advancing their own self-interest. We own high-end DX cameras and therefore think the only rational course is for the company to keep giving us high-end ergonomics and high-end auto-focus in a body ordinary mortals can afford. But to Nikon we may look like cheapskate freeloaders who won't bite the bullet and pay what Nikon thinks is the true market price for those "pro-level" features. Unfortunately, I can easily imagine Nikon executives and board members telling each other the D300 was a mistake because if they had never released it every one of those people would have bought a D700. It isn't true, but that doesn't make me feel any more confident about it.
