your problem is not the lens but the camera and the size of the af points. You have to get used to the combination and where to point the dot to get a clear shot of the bird. I had the A*300 years ago and sold it. Now 90% of my shots are made with the da*300 and with a higher keeper rate then with the a*300.

I have also the kenko but i'm not using it anymore. Cropping gives a better result espcially with the da*300
