Panasonic Intelligent Resolution Technology - does it work?

Hi folks:

I've just discovered the i.Resolution setting in the FZ200 (many other Lumix cameras have it too). I've searched the net for info about what it is, how it works, and whether it's effective.

Does anyone here have some knowledge and experience of this feature? What are your findings?
