Apple TV for photo display

I'm looking for an easy way to display high quality photos on my family room TV.  My workflow is to generally to process images in Lightroom, then put the select best of key events into separate folders which are then synced with iPhone and iPad.

I had thought that Apple TV would make it easy to display photos from the iPhone/iPad on the TV via Airplay/Apple TV, but when I went to the Apple store today to look at the Apple TV, the images shown via airplay seemed to have a variety of problems (substantial artifacts, incomplete scaling).

Any ideas on an easy way to display images?  Right now I could hook up by laptop via a cable to the TV, but I was looking for a cable free solution.
