IS THE WIND FILTER ON AN S110 REALLY AGC?

Is the wind filter really and AGC on the S110? I've made some quick recordings with the wind filter on and off on my S110 and I don't hear any sonic or amplitude differences. I'll add that they weren't really high sound pressure level recordings. However I recorded a friend's band last night with the "wind filter" off and the sound was completely distorted. Would the "wind filter" have acted as an AGC if I had turned it on (and salvaged the video)? If I have no control over recording loud audio with this camera, I really have no use for it. It's a great photo camera, but I need a camera that can handle high SPL in nightclub environments but is pocket-able.
