Kit lens replacement?

You actually have to spend a significant amount of money to get a noticeably better image quality in the 18-55 range, maybe 500-600 for a Tamron 17-50 2.8 or something along those lines.

I spent 90 on a 18-70 3.5-4.5 - though that was more for the f4 and the 70mm though.  I consider those extra 15mm and 1 stop a good feature.
