Ok, the kit zoom may not be as good as a dedicated prime macro lens, but I think it's possible to get acceptable results with the kit lens.
Over lunchtime, my ES-1 slide copying adapter came in. It threads onto the 12-50 Olympus kit lens, and in macro mode, it works fine. This might be easier to use than my homemade rig.
This was taken with my gx1, but I don't think the camera matters too much for this application.
