Hi, i have used this combo for a short time ( a few weeks, and on safari)

I took 10 000 pictures with it, and i liked the lens alot, being able to zoom to approx 500mm and back to 50 on game drives was a blessing , since i had only 1 camera body

However i found it was not super sharp @ 500mm, and taking crops could result in the need of some heavy sharpening or just a bit blurry pictures without

It did not really bother me , because i got great pictures and memories....

This together with the fact that i found that it had collected quite alot of dust on the inside after 2 week, made me sell it back to the shop.

In 2 weeks i lost 150 euros on it, so it was not a bad thing

Now that i have used a 70-200 mm from nikon

If i would have to make a  choice again, i would opt for the 300mm  f4 nikon

with a 1.4 converter the fov wont be that different since the 50-500 isnt trully 500mm

Also the IQ supposedly is superb from every comment/review( www.photozone.de also extremely positive)

I don't know how autofocus would compare, the 50-500 os was not that bad

The stabilization was handy for me , because i shot on a monopod and mostly f8-f11 with the 50-500 os( it supposedly is sharpest there)

but if you shoot the 300 f4 or @ 420 f5.6 you would have rougly half the shutter speed, so os might not be needed

In short i really enjoyed it while i had it, but i would not buy it again

some people also have bad copies or focus / os that stops working

And it is alot of money to spend on something that isn't 100%, i would op the 300 f4 and then safe for a nikon 1.4 converter  (it will be sharper @ f6.3 then the 50-500 on 6.3)

good luck
