Do you think it is a waste to get only D800 + 28 f/1.8G + 85 f/1.8G?

True, downsampling will improve the noise and give the D800 a slight edge over the D600. But from the various downsampled comparisons I've seen on this forum, it seems like any noise edge the D800 has over the D600 is negligible at best, even when downsampled.

I'm not pushing the D600 over the D800. I own a D800 and I love it. I'm merely saying that you will be hard pressed to find any real world noise difference between the two. And that cameralabs comparisons are fun to look at, but mostly worthless. The truth is  both cameras have amazing low light performance.

In reality it should come down to what you like to shoot and what features you must have to shoot it. Do you want the extra resolution, PC sync, faster shutter, faster flash sync speeds and better build quality?

Or do you care more about having a more compact / lightweight body, a MUCH quieter shutter, built in IR, slightly faster FPS, etc. In my opinion, the D600 is a bit easier to hand hold at slower speeds and still get sharp results, at least when not using stablized lenses. But that's just my personal opinion.

I use my friends D600 whenever he brings it around, and it's a wonderful camera. If I didn't have the D800 already, and was shopping for both, I might consider the D600 over D800. In the end, the glass is going to have more impact on your image quality than whatever body you go with.
