I agree and ended up buying a Vivitar cord on eBay for some circumstances.
When I use a flash bracket I have that where the camera rotates for portrait (v landscape) shots, the cord is more reliable than the remote flash on camera rotated to the portrait perspective with the flash above it!
I do not like the multi pre focus flash and it just seems faster with the cord.
