Focusing can be manual or auto. I like to switch to manual for close-up/macro shots since I am using a shallow DOF and I cna select exactly what will be in focus
Zoom is always manual .. which I prefer. I have more control over the speed of the zooming and I do not worry about "over-zooming" which can happen with some auto-zoom lens
