This target is set up in good sunlight about 40 feet away, and the images are cropped. The first is with the Sigma 50-500 OS, and the second with the Nikon 500mm f4 VR.
The lines remain separate down to between 2-3 in the green letters beneath in both. However, the contrast is much better with the Nikon. There is no doubt which is best. But 2 days ago I walked 5 miles with the d800e and the Bigma, and it was not a big deal at age 77. I had found it quite hard to do that carrying the Nikon.
Incidentally, both show some kind of moire, and this is not specific to the d800e. I have used this chart on a d7000 and seen the same pattern. I have not found out how to embed these image in the message - I used to do it in the old version of this site.

Here is the whole image with the Bigma, reduced to 20%.

Off topic, here is a picture of a Purple Gallinule juvenile, taken with the Nikon 500mm f4 VR and d800e, followed by a crop.
