See the " HS " in the name of the lens that means High Speed! That lens is design for shooting at very fast focusing speed with High Torque motors! The motors in the digital cameras have no more torque than the High torque motors from previous Maxxum 9,7, 9xi film bodies. I have shot 10 of thousands of  sports and wildlife shots with this lens on high speed mode with the A77, A900, A700, A550, Maxxum 9, 7, 800si that is what it built for!
