I use a Mac and a 620 and E-M5 and always connect by wire unless I've used more than one card. It avoids so much wear and the (very slim) risk of short circuits. Because IOS-X and Windows try to anticipate your USB needs, you can connect the camera to the computer and the USB lead and it may or may not trigger recognition by your Mac.
Selecting Storage Mode on the LCD is the only way to force your Mac to respond to the connection. If you can't see the Storage Mode option of the PC connect menu, try switching the camera on and off with the wire hooked up. It should appear and if you can select Storage Mode from it, your connection should work normally.
It isn't the best feature of the camera.
