Built in flash diffuser for Sony A57

The length of the light path is not the issue here (I am not talking about bounce flash). What I am wondering about is whether the camera sets the flash parameters based on the distance as measured by the lens. The camera would not know that the flash output is reduced by the diffuser.

So phrased differently, does the camera use any form of TTL metering of the flash in ADI mode to compensate for the reduced flash intensity due to the diffuser?
