Neutral Density filters - Bob Tullis, you around?
Oct 11, 2012

I've never used neutral density filters but I plan to take some long exposure water shots this weekend and I assume I'm going to need one. I can order from B&H tomorrow and get it Friday. When I go online, there are so many choices. I'd love some advice. I'm using my EM5 and will likely use the Oly MZD 9-18 or 12-50, both of which have a 52 mm filter thread. Questions:

  1. Do I need multiple ND filters with differing levels of light blocking capabilities or do I buy one that can adjust?
  2. Does brand matter?
  3. Should I think about a system for other lenses as well or since I plan on using it for wide to normal shots, these two lenses should cover me (thus the 52mm should do the job). The only other lens I could see using would be the PL 25/1.4 which has a 46mm thread.
Feel free to point me to a specific filter at B&H, I won't be insulted.
Thanks,
Steve
