dynamic range: X-E1 vs Nikon

I can't compare the X-E1, but having the X-Pro1 I can say unfortunately it blows highlights considerably more than the D800 or the old S5. When adjusting in Lightroom there appears to be quite a bit more headroom for recovery.

Certainly the X-Pro1 is better than say a D80.

Love the beast regardless.
