I've wondered about this concept also. I've wondered if the firmware of the D800 was hacked if the 'frames per second' could be tweaked upwards. Years ago someone did hack the firmware of a Nikon camera, but they didn't much success with adjusting parameters. I remember one issue was restoring it to the default firmware.
