I do not shoot Leica...

I was at the Leica store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, last week ad had a conversation with the elderly managing gentleman on the products including the Monochrome M which was displayed in the showcase. I remarked I had not shot Leica for sometime and he responded to say the proper expression should be 'I had not shot with a Leica..'
Well, I was thinking aloud we usually say 'I do not drive Merc or BMW' typically. Or should it be "I do not drive with a Merc or BMW'?
I am no expert in grammar in the English language. So, what's the proper way to say it correctly? Conversely, do you say 'I shoot Leica' or 'I shoot with a Leica' everyday?
