Upcoming D5100/D7000 Upgrade: Not Looking Good Considering D3200 Review?
Oct 9, 2012

The topic of this posting is old news, insomuch that the D3200 review has been up for sometime, so this is something that could've easily been asked months ago, so pardon my tardiness.

Anyway, I own the D5100 and am fine with it (although the larger viewfinder & extra AF sensors of the D7000 have tempted me at times). We all know the D5100 & D7000 are due for updating anyday now. The thing is, though, all of the reviews I've read on the D3200 (presumably the source of the new sensor when the D5100 & D7000 successors arrive) have been pretty ho-hum about its image quality, whereas when the new sensor debuted in the D7000 & then trickled down to the D5100, its image quality was raved about, as it has been in reviews of other cameras like the Pentax K5 and K30 which also use that sensor. (I believe the newer Sony NEX models which aren't 24mp also use that same one, if I'm not mistaken.)

Are the D5100 and D7000 updates apt to use this same sensor as the D3200? It seems to me they'll actually take a step BACK in image quality if it they do, because (again) the reviews about the D3200 and its image quality haven't been anywhere as enthusiastic-sounding as was the case with the D5100 and D7000 when they came out.
