I had the pre-Sony version, Minolta 50/1.4 which was exactly the same IMO. I didn´t insist on repairing it when it broke for the second time and purchased the Sigma for my A900. I never looked back since, it trashes my previous Minolta in all aspects, at all apertures.
However, I don´t know about compatibility issues of this Sigma with SLT, maybe beware of that.
good point - I forgot to mention, I bought the Sigma version with an a55 compatible sticker on the box (and indeed it worked fine with the a55) but had to send it to Sigma a couple of months later when i got the a77 as the focus would hunt around and never reliably focus properly - Sigma UK where very quick in rechipping it and since then its works fine on the a55, a77 and Nex5n with the LAE2 adaptor
