Robert how do you find the Dpm for panaromas  I think the DP2M will make great panos.  I was looking at the NN 180 for single row panos.

Due to lack of opportunity, I have only made one large panorama with the DPxMs so far. As expected it worked great, and the resulting image quality is outstanding. Here is a downsized version and some 100% crops:

A 360 degree panorama of Schönbrunn Castle and Gloriette made from 18 portrait oriented DP2M shots.

100% crop showing one end of the Gloriette

100% crop showing ducks around the reflection pool

100% crop showing the tourist transport "train"

Needless to say, I am very happy with my DPxMs...

As for panorama heads, I would recommend the Nodal Ninja 3 Mk II over the NN180 for the Sigma DPxMs:

  • the click stops of the NN180 are of no use for the DPxMs, 6 click-stops only barely work for the DP1M in portrait orientation, the resulting image overlap is only 5.5%. For the recommended 30% image overlap, the DP1M needs 8 to 9 click-stops in landscape orientation and 12 click-stops in portrait orientation. For the DP2M the values are: 12 in landscape and 18 in portrait.
  • the NN3II is only $45 more at current prices and comes with changeable detent rings (i.e, the number of click-stops can be changed by changing a metal ring in the rotator). Rings for different number of stops are supplied in the package, including all the required click-stop counts for the DPxMs
  • the NN3II is a spherical panorama head, with a wider application range than the single row NN180. An example is the possibility to shoot high-resolution wide angle shots of tall buildings, where a single row would not be sufficient.

Greetings,

Robert
