Will using the auto distortion control on the D600 render less than sharp images or yield soft images? If so, why?

Any manipulation of the picture has to stretch some parts and compress other parts so theoretically has to reduce sharpness in some parts of the picture.  The real question is if this is significant and that depends on how much correction is required and what size you are viewing the picture.  My guess is that the loss of sharpness would not generally be noticeable, but if you used a super zoom, knew where to look, and viewed the image at 100% to 200% you would see some loss of sharpness.  But this is not based on my actually doing such a test, just that distortion control has to expand some part of the picture.
