Very dissapointed with the Autofocus system of my new Canon 5D MKIII

I have not shot with Nikon, but my background is with the 5Dm2 and 40D prior.  Perhaps that is why I have been very happy with the AF of the mkIII.   My wife asked me to take a quick shot last night of a table centerpiece from our dinner party this weekend.  She wanted a black background.  I only had a small piece of black cloth which I placed under the vase.   To keep the background dark I dimmed the lights in the room and the mkIII AF worked perfectly.  Also shot at ISO100 and 1/200s.  Flash with mini-softbox aimed from directly above the vase.

Given the ambient light levels I don't think my mk2 AF would have worked so well.
