If Adobe makes good on their promise to 'consider' releasing control then the situation may change but they've been saying that for years.

Adobe offered the DNG specification to ISO about 4 years ago . The delay is with TC42 WG18, not with Adobe.

At October 2008, the working group (WG18) revising TIFF/EP said about the revised version: "... the document currently includes two "interoperability-profiles," "IP 1" for processed image data, using ".TIF" extension, and "IP 2" for "raw" image data, ".DNG" extension."

A WG18 member said to the OpenRAW mailing list (June 2010): "we just had a meeting discussing the current working draft for the upcoming standard.... In October 2010 we hope to reach the so called CD (committee draft) state which means that the technological content is ready to move to a standard. The document then get a final technical review and two editorial reviews before publication.... Typically it will take 6 month to 1 year from CD to publication".

Waiting ... waiting ...! Complain to WG18 if you like.
